MANSFIELD — Tioga grad Max Johnson, a freshman linebacker on the Mansfield University sprint football team, returned from injury to help the Mountaineers to a 34-26 win over Caldwell University here Saturday afternoon.
Johnson, who missed the last three games, recorded three tackles, including a solo stop. He also combined with a teammate on a QB sack.
In three games this season, Johnson has 10 tackles, including six solo stops.
Ulster native Gary Raupers, a Notre Dame graduate, also contributed in the win. He completed 1 of 3 passes for 12 yards, and carried the ball four times for 8 yards and one TD.
On the season, Raupers has completed 16 of 44 passes for 269 yards with two TDs and two interceptions. He has run the ball 42 times of 118 yards and three TDs.
Mansfield, now 3-3, wraps up the 2018 season at Saint Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkle, N.Y. Friday night.
