THE VALLEY — The Athens soccer teams open play in the state playoffs tonight with the boys on the road, and the Lady Wildcats at “home” at Towanda.

Class AAA Opening Round
Athens (18-1) vs. Crestwood (19-1), 5 p.m. @ Lake Lehman H.S.:
The Wildcats are coming off a 3-1 win over Selinsgrove in the District 4 title game, while the Comets blanked Dallas, 2-0, in the District 2 title game.

On paper, this game looks like it should be a defensive struggle.

Athens allowed just four goals 19 games this season, while Crestwood allowed 12 in 20 games. Athens had 16 shutouts on the season, and Crestwood had 12.

Athens (15-3) vs. Scranton Prep (15-3), 6 p.m. @ Towanda H.S.:
The Lady Wildcats are coming off a 2-1 win over Mifflinburg in the District 4 championship game, while Scranton Prep dropped a 4-1 decision to Dallas in the District 2 title game.

The District 4 title was the first for Athens since 2000.
