|WOMEN'S COLLEGE TRACK & FIELD: ATHENS GRADS GAMBRELL, LUNGER COMPETE IN FIRST COLLEGIATE MEET AT BUCKNELL (2018-12-02)

LEWISBURG — Former Athens teammates Breana Gambrell, a freshman at Penn State, and Emily Lunger, a freshman at St. Francis, both competed here Saturday in their first collegiate meet at the Bison Indoor Track & Field Opener at Bucknell University. Both reached one of the top steps of the podium.
Gambrell won the 60-meter dash in 7.71 seconds for her first collegiate win.
Gambrell finished second in the long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 6 1/2-inches. Penn State’s Madeline Holmberg won the long jump at 20-feet, 4 1/2-inches.
Lunger finished second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:00.37, behind Bucknell’s Rebecca Rooney, who clocked in at 59.62 seconds. She also ran the anchor leg on the 1,600-meter relay team, which finished second in 4:06.03.
Lunger finished seventh in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-feet, 1-inch. Bucknell’s Alexandra Butz won the event at 5-feet, 5-inches.
Penn State returns to action Jan. 12 when it hoss the Nittany Lion Challenge, while St. Francis is off until Jan. 13 when it compete in Staten Island.
