WAVERLY — The Waverly 8th-grade team split a pair of decisions last week, while the 7th-grade team dropped decisions to S-VE and Newark Valley in IAC junior high boys basketball action.
Waverly 35, S-VE 13
Waverly jumped out to a quick double-digit lead and cruised to a 35-13 win over S-VE Friday in the 8th-grade game.
Robert Dawson scored seven points in the first quarter to help Waverly to a 13-0 lead.
Kayleb Bechy scored all six of Waverly’s points in the second quarter as it stretched its lead to 19-3 at the half.
Bechy led Waverly with 10 points, while Dawson scored nine points, and Jake VanHouten chipped in with four points.
S-VE 29, Waverly 25S-VE used a 14-7 spurt in the fourth quarter to rally for a 29-25 win over Waverly in 7th-grade action.
Keaton Anderson led Waverly with nine points, and Nehemiah Anthony chipped in with four points.
Newark Valley 29, Waverly 25At Newark Valley, Waverly fell behind early and never recovered in a 29-25 loss to Newark Valley Wednesday in the 8th-grade game.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 9-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, and led 16-9 at the half.
Robert Dawson led Waverly with 12 points, while Jay Pipher scored seven points, and Evan Davies added five points.
Newark Valley 44, Waverly 26At Newark Valley, the host Cardinals raced out to an early lead and cruised to a 44-26 win over Waverly in the 7th-grade game.
Newark Valley led 16-7 after the first quarter, and stretched its lead to 29-13 at the half.
Carter George led Newark Valley with 11 points, and Alex Burgess added nine points, including a 3-pointer.
