IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY RIDES TOMASSO'S HOT HAND EARLY IN 70-31 WIN OVER S-VE (2019-01-04)

SPENCER — Senior Alex Tomasso had the hot hand early to help Waverly to a big lead en route to a 70-31 win over S-VE here Friday night in IAC girls basketball action.

Alex Tomasso pumped in 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, in the first quarter, and sophomore Sidney Tomasso added a 3-pointer in Waverly’s 23-6 first-quarter blitz.

Junior Paige Lewis had five points in the second quarter, and senior Lauren Newman added four points as the Lady Wolverines stretched their advantage to 38-11 at the halftime intermission.

Waverly had eight different players find the scoring column in the second half.

Alex Tomasso led Waverly with 26 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, while Newman scored 10 points, senior Wendi Hammond had nine points, junior Sabrina Pierce added eight points, Sidney Tomasso scored seven points, and Lewis chipped in with six points.

Madelynn Pasto led S-VE with 14 points, while Paige Grube added five, and Hannah Harmon chipped in with four.

Waverly, now 9-0, hosts Lansing Tuesday, while S-VE, now 2-7, plays at Union Springs.
