WAVERLY — Towanda won the final six weight classes, including five by fall, to rally for a 47-33 win over Waverly here Thursday night in non-league wrestling action.

Eighth-grader Connor Stotler kicked off Waverly’s early success with a pin of Mikey Nowell in 1:55 at 106 pounds to give the Wolverines a quick 6-0 lead.

Towanda’s Tyler Hawley registered a first-period fall at 113 pounds to tie the match, but Waverly would dominate the remainder of the lower weights, winning five of the next six bouts.

After Waverly freshman Garrett Skeens received a forfeit at 120 pounds, junior Rylan Laforest gave the Wolverines an 18-6 lead with a pin of Garrett Chapman in 4:36 at 126 pounds.

Waverly stretched its lead to 24-6 with a forfeit to senior Colby Sindoni at 132 pounds, but Skylar Allen got the Black Knights back on the winning track with a 20-4 technical fall in 6:00 of Waverly senior Mike Chandler at 138 pounds to make it 24-11.

In the match of the night, Waverly junior Ethan Stotler forged an 8-3 decision over Preston Rogers at 145 pounds to avenge a loss from earlier this season.

Preston beat Stotler, 8-6, in the semifinals of the Windsor Christmas Tournament.

Sophomore Austin Kimble decked Riley Gowin in 1:25 at 152 pounds to give Waverly a 33-11 lead, but it was the Wolverines’ last win of the night.

Towanda standout Cooper Mosier and Will Bowen recorded first-period falls at 160 and 170 pounds, respectively, to close the gap to 33-23.

Clay Green scored a second-period pin for the Black Knights, and Clay Watkins received a forfeit at 195 pounds to give the Knights a 35-33 lead.

At 220 pounds, Towanda’s Alex Perez registered a first-period pin to sew up the win for the Black Knights, giving them a 41-33 lead with one bout remaining.

Aaron Herit put the finishing touches on the Towanda win with a third-period pin at 285 pounds.

Waverly returns to action Friday in the two-day Bradshaw Tournament in Canandaigua.
