NTL WRESTLING: ATHENS ROLLS OVER NORTH PENN-LIBERTY, 55-12 - CLOSING IN ON REGULAR-SEASON TITLE (2019-01-17)

LIBERTY, Pa. - Athens took another step closer to its first regular-season league title in years here Thursday evening with a 55-12 rout of North Penn-Liberty in NTL wrestling action.

The Wildcats improve to 6-0 in NTL action - one game ahead of Troy (6-1) and Wyalusing (4-1).

Athens beat Troy earlier this season, while Wyalusing lost to the Trojans. Athens hosts NEB Friday, and hosts Wyalusing Wednesday. The Rams will also square off with Towanda and Canton.

In its win over North Penn-Liberty, Athens won six of the nine contested weight classes and received five forfeits.

Sophomore Zach Stafursky got the Wildcats off to a 4-0 lead with an 8-0 major decision win over Mitchael Tice at 152 pounds.

After junior Alex West and freshman Cameron Whitmarsh, at 160 and 170 pounds, respectively, received forfeit to extend the lead to 16-0, Wildcat senior David Galasso, wrestling up at 182 pounds, knocked off NP-L standout Cameron Andrews in a 5-1 decision to make it 19-0.

Junior Dylan Comstock kept it rolling for the Wildcats with a 4-0 decision over Brett Harvey at 195 pounds to extend the lead to 22-0.

Brothers Roch and John Minnich both earned 5-0 wins over sophomore Ben Pernaselli and junior Keegan Braund, respectively, to put the Mountaineers on the board and trim the Athens lead to 22-6.

Back-to-back pins by freshmen Kaden Setzer and Gavin Bradley put Athens in firm control with a 34-6 lead.

Setzer pinned Roger Learn in 4:40 at 106 pounds, and Bradley decked Coy Wagner in 3:55 at 113 pounds.

Patriot June registered NP-L's last win on the mat with a 63-second fall at 120 pounds to make it 34-12.

After forfeits to freshmen Karter Rude and Lucas Forbes at 126 and 132 pounds, respectively, freshman Troy Jennings edged Gavin Sexier, 7-6, at 138 pounds for the Wildcats' final win of the night on the mat.

Junior Collin Martin received a forfeit at 145 to put the finishing touches on the Athens win.
