NTL WRESTLING: SAYRE DROPS 4 OF 5 MATCHES AT 'BATTLE OF THE BORDER' (2019-01-18)

TIOGA JUNCTION, Pa.  - Sayre dropped four of its five decision to New York State Section V teams here Friday night in the "Battle of the Border" wrestling tournament at Williamson High School.

Sayre 52, Jasper 18
Sayre received eight forfeits, and won the only two weight classes to reach the mat in a 52-18 win over Jasper.

At 285 pounds, freshman Nick Polzella decked Jasper's Loren Brown in 1:37.

In the only other match to reach the mat, Sayre senior Thomas Hendricks got off his back in the first period to post a 16-7 major decision win over Matt Dane in their 152-pound match-up.

Freshmen Daniel Horton (106 pounds), Cameron McCutcheon (113), Jayden Gardner (120), sophomore Robert Benjamin (132), senior Zaine Patnode (160), freshman Josh Wilson (170), and sophomore Jordan Goodrich (195) received forfeits for the Redskins.

Addison 51, Sayre 15
Addison won six of the seven contested weight classes, including six by fall, in a 51-15 win over Sayre. Addison also received three forfeits, while Sayre received two.

Patnode scored a 9-4 decision over Zach Wood at 160 pounds for Sayre's only win on the mat.

Goodrich (195) and Polzella (285) received forfeits for the Redskins

Alfred-Almond 48, Sayre 27
Alfred-Almond registered four falls and enjoyed a 12-point advantage in forfeits received en route to a 48-27 win over Sayre.

Alfred-Almond won 4 of the 7 contested weight classes and had a 24-15 edge in those seven matches.

For Sayre, Hendricks won a 4-3 decision over Owen Washburn at 152 pounds, while Patnode scored a pin of Morgan Davidson in 2:24 of their 160-pound match-up, and Goodrich decked Dan Stesley in 54 seconds at 195 pounds.

Wilson received a forfeit at 170 pounds, and McCutcheon picked up a forfeit at 113 pounds for the Redskins.

Bolivar-Richburg 54, Sayre 11
Bolivar-Richburg won 7 of the 8 contested weight classes en route to a 54-11 win over Sayre.

Polzella flattened Dalton Champlain in 33 seconds at 285 pounds for Sayre's only win on the mat in the match.

Wilson received a forfeit at 170 pounds for the Redskins, who were penalized a team point after the 195-pound bout.

Campbell-Savona 42, Sayre 36
Sayre rallied from an early 18-0 deficit to tie the bout at 36-36 only to forfeit the final weight class in a 42-36 loss to Campbell-Savona.

C-S opened the match with a fall at 132 pounds, then received forfeits at 138 and 145 to take an 18-0 lead.

Hendricks put Sayre on the board with a fall of Jay Thomas is 1:57 at 152 pounds to trim the deficit to 18-6.

After a C-S fall at 160 pounds, Patnode and Goodrich received forfeits at 170 and 195 pounds, respectively, sandwiched around a Redskin forfeit at 182 pounds to make it 30-18.

After a forfeit to Polzella at 285 pounds (there was no match at 220 pounds), Horton scored a pin of Greg Hargrave in 4:45 at 106 pounds to tie the match at 30-30.

McCutcheon gave Sayre a 36-30 lead with a pin over Dalton Archibald in 3:00 at 113 pounds.

C-S's Joe Black registered a 40-second far at 120 pounds to tie the match at 36-36, then the Redskins issued a forfeit at 126 pounds to finish off the match.

Sayre, now 2-15, returns to action Wednesday at Troy.
