IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: TIOGA BLOWS GAME OPEN LATE IN 58-31 WIN OVER GROTON (2019-01-19)

TIOGA CENTER - Tioga jumped out to an early lead, then blew the game wide-open in the fourth quarter en route to a 58-31 win over Groton here Friday evening in IAC junior varsity boys basketball action.

Isaac Peterson scored four points, and Bryce Bailey and Casey Stoughton each knocked down 3-pointers in the first quarter to lead Tioga to a 13-4 lead after the first with minutes.

Derrick Gage scored four points in the second quarter as Tioga maintained a nine-point lead, at 21-12, at the halftime intermission.

Groton picked up the offensive pace in the third quarter, but Gage scored eight more points and Stoughton canned another 3-pointer to help Tioga up its lead to 37-27 entering the final eight minutes.

Gavin Godfrey knocked down a 3-pointer and scored five points in the fourth quarter, while Stoughton and Matt Watson added four points apiece in a game-clinching 23-4 fourth-quarter blitz.

Gage led Tioga with 12 points, while Stoughton scored 11 points, Peterson had eight points, Godfrey added six points, and Seth Franks, Watson, Jerrick Allen, and Josh Reis chipped in with four points apiece.

Tioga, now 2-13, hosts Notre Dame Friday.
