SECTION IV BOYS INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: DOUBLE-WINNER CHANDLER LEADS WAVERLY TO THIRD-PLACE FINISH AT HURLEY INVITE (24 PHOTOS) (2019-01-19)

ITHACA - Junior Isaac Chandler won a pair of events to help Waverly to a third-place finish in the Small School standings here Friday night in the Hurley Indoor Track & Field Invitational at Ithaca College.

Sidney-Delhi-Unatego won the team title with 79 points, edging out runner-up Lansing, which tallied 75 points. The Wolverines tallied 55 points, and finished seventh in the overall standings.

Chandler won the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.32 seconds, and sophomore Skyler Dengler was ninth in 10.73 seconds. He also won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 14-feet.

Junior Brandon Bubniak, sophomores Jayden Rose and Collin Wright, and freshman Nate Ackley logged Waverly's only other first-place finish, winning the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 9:21.35.

Wright finished second in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:26.3, and Ackley was sixth in 10:51.0.

Chandler teamed with 7th-grader Ralph Johnson, freshman Sam VanDyke, and senior Tyler Saxon to finish third in the 800-meter relay in a time of 1:43.15.

Sophomores Alex Gadow and Jayden Rose finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in times of 2:57.19 and 2:58.3.

Seniors Jake Bennett and Giovanni Damiano, junior Jake Blair, and Gadow finisher fourth in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:11.6.

Bubniak finished seventh in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:36.58, and senior Jake Bennett was 11th in 1:39.52.

VanDyke finished eighth in the 300-meter dash in a time of 41.2 seconds, and Blair was 11th in 42.26 seconds.

Johnson finished 12th in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.43 seconds, and Saxon was 16th in 7.53 seconds.

Freshman Hunter Elston finished 12th in the weight throw with a toss of 25-feet, 4-inches, and senior Mike Zimmer was 14th in 22-feet, 7 1/2-inches.

Freshman Gavin Schillmoeller finished 15th in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:37.77, and senior Giovanni Damiano was 16th in 5:40.87.

Waverly returns to action Feb. 15 at the Section IV Championships at Ithaca College.
