EISENHOWER BREAKS OWN SCHOOL RECORD IN WEIGHT THROW

ITHACA - Junior Melina Ortiz won a pair of events, junior Sheridan Talada recorded a trio of top-two finishes, senior Stephanie Hyland had three top-three finishes, and junior Marissa Eisenhower broke her own school record to lead Waverly to a second-place finish in the Small School Division here Friday night at the Hurley Indoor Track & Field Invitational.

The Lady Wolverines finished tied for second with Trumansburg with 71 points. Sidney-Delhi-Unatego claimed the team title with 103 points. Waverly finished fifth in the overall standings.

Ortiz won the 300-meter dash in a time of 44.79 seconds, and junior Zoe Lunduski was 13th in 50.25 seconds. She finished fourth in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.89 seconds.

Ortiz and Talada teamed with senior Stephanie Hyland, and junior Elizabeth Fritzen to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:32.2.

Talada finished second in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:20.23, and sophomore Kylie Payne finished 14th.

Talada also finished second in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:12.9, and 7th-grader Elizabeth Vaughn was seventh in a time of 5:49.27.

Fritzen finished second in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:47.38, and Hyland was third in 1:48.79.

Hyland finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 32-feet.

Eisenhower finished third in the weight throw with a school-record heave of 29-feet, 9 1/2-inches, breaking her old record of 28-feet, 4 3/4-inches set last year by 16 3/4-inches. She also finished 13th in the shot put with a heave of 24-feet, 5-inches.

Lunduski finished fifth in the 1,500-meter race walk in a time of 11:47.59, and junior Alyssa Simonetti was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 10.35 seconds,

The foursome of Lunduski, freshman Emily Tully, senior Brittany Rorick, and Simonetti teamed to finish sixth in the 800-meter relay in a time of 2:11.43.

Waverly returns to action Feb. 15 at the Section IV Championships at Ithaca College.
