COLLEGE WRESTLING: BOTH NATIONALLY-RANKED, ATHENS GRAD WINTERS, HORTON GO 3-0 AT WPI DUALS TO HELP RIT TO THREE WINS (2019-01-23)

WORCESTER, Mass. - Athens grads Kaidon Winters, a sophomore on the RIT wrestling team, and Chris Horton, a freshman, each went 3-0 Jan. 12 at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Duals to help nationally-ranked RIT to three wins.

Winters is ranked third in the nation at 157 pounds. He is 22-0 on the season, including a 9-0 record in duals, with 12 falls and one technical fall. He owns a 64-10 career record.

Horton is ranked 10th in the nation at 133 pounds. He is 20-5 on the season, including a 9-0 mark in duals, with four pins and four technical falls.

The Tigers, ranked 21st in the nation, opened the duals with a 21-17 win over Roger Williams University, then ranked 18th. RIT then blanked Trinity College, 50-0, and finished off the day with a 27-7 win over host WPI.

Against Roger Williams, Horton forged an 11-4 win over Tristan Havilland, and Winters decked Jack Kelly in 1:16.

Horton rolled to a 14-3 major decision win over Alex Steele in RIT's shutout win over Trinity, while
Winters earned a 6-0 win over Grant Sorenson, who is ranked fourth in the nation at 157 pounds.

Against WPI, Horton topped Carter Lewis 9-3, and Winters beat Tyler Marsh 4-1.

Horton was named the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season following his performance at the WPI Duals.

RIT returns to action Sunday in the John Reese Duals at Wilkes University.
