Valley Sports Report
CORNING - Waverly grad Jon Ward, a sophomore on the Corning men's basketball team, has been an integral part of the Red Barons' current seven-game win streak.

On Jan. 23, Ward had eight points on 4 of 6 shooting from the field, as well as 10 rebounds, four blocked shots, three steals, and one assist in a 93-51 win over Broome CC - Corning's fourth consecutive win.

On Jan. 26, Ward had 13 points on 6 of 11 shooting from the field, and had seven rebounds, three blocked shots, and one assist in a 64-45 win over Fulton-Montgomery CC.

Corning made it six in a row on Jan. 27 with a 73-63 win over Jefferson CC. Ward had 14 points on 5 of 8 shooting, including a 3-for-3 performance from behind the 3-point arc, seven rebounds, two assists, and one steal.

On Thursday, Corning jumped out a big lead early against a depleted Cayuga CC team, which suffered an injury in the first half, and was forced to forfeit due to having only four players in uniform. They won 2-0 via forfeit for their seventh straight win to improve to 12-6 on the season.

Ward is third on the team, averaging 12.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season. He leads the team with 3.4 blocks per game, is second on the team in field goal percentage at 54.7 percent, and also average 1 assist and 0.9 steals per game.

Corning returns to action Monday at Cayuga CC.
