NTL SWIMMING: ATHENS BOYS WIN FINAL RELAY TO EDGE TOWANDA, 79-78 LADY WILDCATS WIN BIG (2019-02-05)

TOWANDA  A very young Athens foursome won the meet-closing 400-yard freestyle relay to pull out a 79-78 win over Towanda in NTL boys swimming action here Tuesday, while the Lady Wildcats topped Towanda, 109-62.

BOYS
Athens 79, Towanda 78

Sophomore Zac Gowin, and freshmen Kyle Anthony, Kaden Gorsline, and Reuven Gifeisman teamed to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:15.94 to erase a three-point deficit for a 79-78 win.

Gowin, Anthony, sophomore Mason Henderson, and senior Trent Neville were all double-winners for the Wildcats.

Gowin won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:11.3, while Anthony won the 1-meter diving competition with 192.85 points, and Gorsline was third in 166.9 points.

Henderson won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:40.25, and senior Robert Kisner was second in 3:17.05.

Henderson also  won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 58.23 seconds, and Gifeisman was third in 1:01.11.

Neville won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.03 seconds. He also won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:02.19.

Gowin finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:17.37, and Gifeisman finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:22.18.

Kisner finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:24.04.

GIRLS
Athens 109, Towanda 62

Freshman Brooke Kopatz and junior Lauren Neville were triple-winners to lead Athens to a 109-62 win over Towanda, and freshman Raven McCarthy-Gardner, sophomores Alyson Rockwell and Madison Derrig were double-winners.

Kopatz won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:22.22, and Derrig was second in 2:29.79.

Neville won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:17.62, and freshman Amelia Robinson was third in 1:32.71.

Kopatz and Neville teamed with Derrig and senior Hayleigh Macik to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:30.04.

Kopatz and Neville also teamed with Derrig and Rockwell to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:57.67.

McCarthy-Gardner won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:22.04, and junior Isabelle Menard was second in 1:46.9. McCarthy-Gardner also won thee 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:25.36.

Rockwell won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:05.02. Rockwell finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 29.17 seconds, and Macik was third in 30.63.

Junior Christian Bard led a sweep in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:55.45, while senior Alyssa Lindane was second in 3:13.85, and sophomore Makenna Galvin was third in 3:18.96.

Freshman Taylor Walker won the 1-meter diving competition with 140.15 points

Liddane finished second in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 7:15.33, and senior Katie Felt was third in 7:23.93.

Athens returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Sayre.
