MARATHON - Tioga got off to a fast start and cruised to a 59-43 win over Marathon here Tuesday night in IAC South Small School Division girls basketball action.
Senior Rebekah Richter and sophomore Eve Wood, who knocked down a 3-pointer, scored six points apiece, while sophomore Olivia Ayres canned a 3-pointer and had five points, and junior Chloe Bellis drained a 3-pointer to fuel a 22-9 run in the first eight minutes.
Junior Giovanni Rossi scored seven of Tioga's eight points in the second quarter as the Lady Olympians trimmed two points off the deficit, and trailed 30-19 at the half.
Wood knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored 10 points in the third quarter as the Lady Tigers extended their lead to 46-32 entering the final eight minutes.
Rossi scored six more points in the fourth quarter, including a 4-for-4 effort at the free-throw line, and Ayres buried a 3-pointer as Tioga extended its lead in the final stanza.
Rossi led Tioga with 17 points and 16 rebounds, while Wood had 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and Ayres had 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and two assists.
Richter had nine points and five rebounds, and Chloe Bellis added five points and three steals.
Brooke Tillotson led Marathon with 21 points, and Daisy Allen added 13 points.
Tioga, now 6-11, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Deposit-Hancock.
