ATHENS - Emily Pennison and Charelle Jandoc knocked down 3-pointers to help Athens take the lead in the third quarter, and the Lady Wildcats made enough free throws in the fourth quarter to nail down a 27-21 win over Wyalusing here Wednesday evening in NTL Large School Division junior varsity girls basketball action.
After the two teams battled to a 10-10 draw at the half, Wyalusing took the lead early in the third quarter, but try by Pennison and Jandoc gave the junior Lady Wildcats an 18-15 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
Kassidy Peterson scored five points in the fourth quarter, including a pair of key free throws in the final minutes.
In all, Athens made just 5 of 18 free throws in the fourth quarter, and 7 of 29 in the game.
Peterson led a balanced Athens attack with seven points, four steals and four blocked shots, while Pennison had five points, three rebounds, and one block, Olivia Bartlow had five points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots, Charlsey Walters added four points and on blocked shot, and Joslyn Murray grabbed four boards.
Athens returns to action Friday when it hosts Troy.
