|NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: ATHENS RIDES QUICK START TO 68-43 WIN OVER TOWANDA (2019-02-07)

TOWANDA — Athens raced out to a quick double-digit lead, and cruised to a 68-43 win over Towanda here Thursday night in NTL Large School Division boys basketball action.
Senior Aric Westbrook scored eight points in the first quarter, while junior Brady Smith canned a pair of 3-pointers for six points, and junior Aaron Lane added five points, including a trey to fuel a 22-7 blitz in the first eight minutes.
Towanda closed the gap to eight, 32-24, at the half, thanks to Conner Hart, who pumped in 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, but Lane struck for 11 points, including two 3-pointers, in the third quarter to help the Wildcats to a 47-36 lead entering the final eight minutes.
In the fourth quarter, sophomore Benny Gambrell scored eight points, while Westbrook and junior Keegan Rude added four points apiece, and Lane buried his fourth 3-pointer of the game in a 21-7 run that put the game away.
Lane led Athens with 21 points, while Westbrook scored 13 points, Gambrell had 12, Smith added 11 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and Rude chipped in with eight points.
Hart led Towanda with 16 points, and Tanner Kunkle added nine.
Athens, now 12-6, returns to action Saturday at North Penn-Mansfield.
