Valley Sports ReportTOWANDA - Sophomore Eve Wood led three scorers in double-figures as Tioga kept its postseason hopes alive with a 54-33 win over Towanda here Saturday afternoon in non-league girls basketball action.
Tioga, now 7-12, needs a win Monday night when it hosts O-M to qualify for the upcoming Section IV, Class C playoffs.
Sophomore Olivia Ayres canned a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter, and junior Giovanna Rossi added five points as Tioga built a 14-11 lead after the first eight minutes.
Wood knocked down a 3-pointer early in the second quarter, and scored nine points in the stanza, while Ayres added another 3-pointer and scored five points in a 16-7 run that gave the Lady Tigers a 12-point lead, at 30-18 at the half.
The lead could have been even bigger, but Tioga made just 2 of its 12 free-throw attempts in the first half.
In the third quarter, Wood scored seven points, while Rossi and senior Rebekah Richter added five points apiece, and Ayres connected on her fourth 3-pointer of the game to fuel a 20-9 run that extended the Lady Tiger advantage to 26 points, at 50-24, entering the final eight minutes.
Wood had 17 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, four rebounds, and three assists, while Ayres had 14 points and three assists, Rossi had 10 points and eight rebounds, Richter added seven points and seven boards, junior Chloe Bellis had five steals and four assists, and junior Hannah Fox chipped in with four points.
Cearra McLinko led Towanda with 13 points, and Hannah Chandler added eight.
