IAC BOYS SWIMMING: VANDYKE, PAN LEAD WAVERLY'S EFFORTS AT LEAGUE MEET (10 PHOTOS) (2019-02-10)

WAVERLY - Swimming with a depleted roster, Waverly had three top-three finishes to finish fifth here Saturday afternoon at the IAC Swimming & Diving Championships.

With the majority of its roster sidelined due to having already participated in the maximum number of events allowed by NYSPHAA rules prior to postseason competition, the two-time defending champion Wolverines placed behind Southern Cayuga, which claimed the team title with 455.5 points, O-M (294), Lansing (254) and Dryden (251). Waverly had 233 points.

Senior Max VanDyke and sophomore Max Pan had the best finishes of the day for the Wolverines.

VanDyke placed second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:02.23, and 7th-grader Ryan Clark was ninth in 2:24.54.

Pan finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:16.45 - 2 1/2 seconds faster than his seed time.

Van Dyke finished third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:03.42, and junior Nick Janzen was 10th in 1:22.43.

The foursome of junior Brandon Clark, 7th-graders Liam Wright and Ryan Clark, and Pan finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:59.89.

VanDyke teamed  with Janzen, Pan, and Wright to finish fifth in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:07.61.

VanDyke and Janzen teamed with Brandon Clark and Ryan Clark to finish fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Wright finished fifth in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:18.16, and Ryan Clark was sixth in 6:28.59 - more than 35 seconds faster than his seed time.

Wright also finished seventh in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:40.81, and Pan was 11th in 2:48.94.

Janzen finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.65 seconds, and Brandon Clark was 12th in 29.93 seconds - 2 1/2 seconds faster than his seed time.

Brandon Clark finished eighth in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:07.85, and 8th-grader Simon Stevens was 15th in 1:21.8.

Stevens also finished 15th in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:44.83 - nearly 10 seconds faster than his seed time.

Waverly returns to action Wednesday in the Section IV, Class C preliminaries at Watkins Glen.
