SHAMOKIN - Sayre's Kaden Bennett and Athens' Dashel Bishop won individual gold here over the weekend at annual Tournament of Champions at Shamokin High School.

Athens' Aiden Garcia finished fourth in his weight class, and Athens' Mason Vanderpool finished seventh in his bracket.

Kaden Bennett, the top-seed at 95 pounds, received an opening-round bye, then pinned Jersey Shore's Kale Ross in the round-of-16.

In the quarterfinals, Bennett won a 5-2 decision over Canton's Hudson Ward.

Bennett won his semi-final match-up against Danville's Blake Sassaman via injury default, then pinned Central Mountain's Clayton Foster in the finals.

Also at 95 pounds, Athens' Tyler Roe opened his day with a 14-2 major decision over Central Columbia's Alex Hosler, then lost via fall to Foster in the round-of-16.

Roe bounced back with a pin of Shikellamy's Carver Wagner in wrestlebacks, but was eliminated via a 1-0 decision to Lewisburg's Caleb Listman.

Bishop, who was unseeded at 75 pounds, opened the tournament with a first-period fall over Williamson's Wyatt Dachux. In the quarterfinals, Dashel pinned third-seeded Bailey Hallman of Shikellamy.

Bishop recorded three takedown in a 6-0 win over second-seeded Kendrick Ross of Wyalusing in the semifinals.

In the title match, Bishop pinned fourth-seed Cohen Landis of Canton.

Garcia, the third seed at 105 pounds, pinned Canton's Ryland Sakers in 1:15 in the opening round, but dropped a 4-3 decision to sixth-seed Rocco Serafini of Central Mountain in the quarterfinals.

Garcia bounced back in the consolation bracket round-of-8 with a 12-1 major decision over Jake Fogelsanger of Bloomsburg. Garcia then beat Colby LeBarron of Warrior Run, 5-2 in the first round-of-4.

In the consolation semifinals, Garcia forged a 9-1 major decision over Kyle Vandenheuval of Danville.

In the third-place match, Serafini again edged Garcia, this time in a 5-4 decision.

Vanderpool, the sixth seed at 90 pounds, pins Towanda's Shane Atwood in 58 seconds, but lost via fall to third-seed and eventual weight class champion Sam Person of South Williamsport.

Vanderpool bounced back in the consolation round-of-8 with a 7-0 win over Brayden Wesneski of Canton, but lost in the first round-of-4 to Central Mountain's Zane Cooper, 5-3.

In the seventh-place match, Vanderpool forged a 9-3 decision over Colby Warriner of Danville.

At 100 pounds, Athens' Emiliano Mallare began his day with a 9-0 major decision over Lewisburg's Noah Carbone in the opening round.

Mallare lost via fall in the round-of-16 to second-seed Cade Wimsberger of Milton. He was eliminated by Montgomery's William Valentine in his first wrestleback match via a 7-0 decision.

At 110 pounds, Sayre's Layla Bennett pinned Bloomsburg's Blaise Fraley in 3:43 in the opening round.

After losing a 12-1 major decision to Wyalusing's Cade McMicken in the round-of-16, Layla Bennett bounced back with a win over Sugar Valley's Isaiah Conway in her first consolation bracket match.

She was eliminated via a 6-3 decision to Mifflinburg's Smith Camden.

At 138 pounds, Athens' Dalton Mathews lost his opening-round match via fall to Canton's Levi Pepper.

After receiving a forfeit in the opening round of the consolation bracket, Matthews forged a 7-5 decision over Montoursville's Frank Schemery.

Matthews was eliminated one round shy of placing in a loss by fall to Central Columbia's Shane Tomlinson.

At 155 pounds, Athens' Riley Hall pinned Sullivan County's Elisha Doran in the opening round, then followed it up with a pin of Danville's Tyler Artley in the round-of-16.

Hall lost via fall to top-seed Wes Barnes of Southern Columbia in the quarterfinals, then dropped a 1-0 decision to Hughesville's Austin Gray in his first wrestleback match.

At 122 pounds, Athens' Robert Walters was 1-2 on the day, with his win coming via forfeit in the opening round of the consolation bracket.

At 145 pounds, Athens' Blaine Martin was 1-2 on the day, with his win coming via forfeit in the opening round of the consolation bracket.

Athens' Mason Potter (250), Athens' Jared Wright (130 pounds), Jared Ammerman (115 pounds), Athens' Brandon Jennings (110 pounds),  Athens Josh Courtney (85 pounds) all went 0-2.
