THE VALLEY - Girls basketball takes center stage this evening with Waverly playing for its third consecutive IAC Large School championship, and Sayre hosting crosstown rival Athens in the opening round of the NTL Showdown.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
IAC Large School Championship Game
Waverly (18-1) vs. Whitney Point (11-8), 6 p.m. @ Tompkins-Cortland Community College:
The Lady Wolverines are coming off a 72-48 win over Johnson City Wednesday night, while the Lady Golden Eagles topped Dryden, 60-42, Friday.

In 2017, Waverly rolled to a 71-39 win over Whitney Point in the Large School title game. Earlier that season Waverly routed Whitney Point, 62-19.

In 2018, the Lady Wolverines thumped Whitney Point, 56-29, in the Large School title game. Earlier that  season, Waverly cruised to a 79-38 win in the season opener.

In their first meeting this season, Waverly rolled to a 75-31 on its home floor.

NTL Showdown
Athens (13-9) at Sayre (17-5), 7 p.m.:
The Lady Redskins are coming off a 50-37 win over NEB Friday, while the Lady Wildcats topped Troy, 50-31, Wednesday.

In their first meeting, Sayre won a defensive struggle at Athens, 31-27.  Just 18 days later, Sayre rode a fast start to a 50-27 win on its home floor.

BOYS BASKETBALL
Sayre (6-15) at Montgomery (0-20), 6 p.m. JV start:
Th Redskins are coming off a 67-46 win over Cowanesque Valley Wednesday, while the Red Raiders dropped a 66-37 decision to Midd-West.
