Valley Sports ReportWATKINS GLEN - Waverly junior Gage Streeter won Section IV gold, breaking a 24-year-old school record in the process, but missed qualifying for States by the narrowest of margins here Friday afternoon at the Section IV, Class C diving championships.
Streeter scored a 449.6 in the 11-dive format of the 1-meter diving competition to win the Class C championship, and to break the school record held by Tony Vantassel, which he established in 1995.
Streeter, however, missed the state standard, which would have automatically qualified him for the state meet, by 0.4 points.
Waverly 8th-grader Jerrell Sackett finished sixth with 213.15 points.
The Waverly swimmers will compete in the Section IV finals Saturday at Watkins Glen. The start time is 6 p.m.
