TALADA BREAKS OWN SCHOOL RECORD IN 3000

ITHACA - Junior Sheridan Talada was a triple-winner, including Waverly's only individual first-place finish, to lead the Lady Wolverines to a fourth-place finish at the Section IV Small School Indoor Track & Field Championships here Friday night at Ithaca College.

Sidney-Delhi-Unatego won the Small School Division team title with 101 points, while runner-up Trumansburg tallied 79 points, and third-place Lansing had 62 points. Waverly finished with 58 points, and fifth-place Notre Dame had 47 points.

Talada won the 3,000-meter run in a new school-record time of 11:13.38. She breaks her own record of 11:13.8, which she set earlier this season.

Talada teamed with junior Elizabeth Fritzen, 7th-grader Elizabeth Vaughn, and senior Stephanie Hyland to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 10:50.58.

Talada also teamed with Fritzen, Hyland, and junior Melina Ortiz to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:32.9

Ortiz finished second in the 300-meter dash in a time of 44.88 seconds, and junior Zoe Lunduski was 16th in 50.18 seconds. Ortiz, who posted the fourth-fastest time at 7.88 seconds in the preliminaries, finished fifth in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.87 seconds. Eighth-grader Abigail Knolles was 21st in 8.6 seconds.

Hyland finished third in the triple jump with a hop, skip, and jump of 33-feet, 1/4-inch.

Junior Alyssa Simonetti, who had the sixth fastest time at 10.47 seconds in the prelims, finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 10.24 seconds.

Junior Marissa Eisenhower finished fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 28-feet, 8 3/4-inches, and senior Brittany Rorick was 13th at 17-feet, 5 3/4-inches. Eisenhower finished 11th in the shot put with a heave of 24-feet, 6 1/2-inches, and Rorick was 15th in 22-feet, 2 1/2-inches.

Lunduski finished fifth in the 1,500-meter race walk in a time of 11:40.8, and Fritzen was fifth in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:51.63.

The foursome of Knolles, Lunduski, Simonetti, and freshman Emily Tully finished eighth in the 800-meter relay in a time of 2:06.87.

Vaughn finished ninth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:54.19.

Waverly returns to action Saturday in the Section IV State Qualifier at Cornell University.
