ITHACA - Junior Isaac Chandler was a double-winner, and broke his own school-record in the pole vault to lead Waverly to a third-place finish in the Small School Championships at the Section IV Indoor Track & Field meet here Friday night at Ithaca College.

Sidney-Delhi-Unatego won the Small School team title with 68.3 points, edging runner-up Lansing, which had 67 points. Waverly tallied 50 points, while fourth-place Dryden had 42 points, and BGA had 39.3 points.
 
Chandler won the pole vault, clearing the bar at a school-record of 14-feet, 6-inches, eclipsing his own record of 14-feet, 3-inches set on Dec. 15, 2018.

Chandler, who ran the fastest time in the prelims at 8.23 seconds, won the 55-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 8.11 seconds. Sophomore Skyler Dengler was eighth in a time of 10.45 seconds.

The foursome of junior Brandon Bubniak, sophomores Collin Wright and Jayden Rose, and freshman Nate Ackley earned the Wolverines' only other win, claiming first place in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 9:22.8.

Wright finished second in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:36.52, and freshman Nate Ackley was fourth in 11:04.08. Wright also finished fifth in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:59.34, and freshman Gavin Schillmoeller was 16th in 5:40.31.

The foursome of junior Jake Blair, seniors Giovanna Damiano and senior Jake Bennett, and sophomore Alex Gadow teamed to finish fourth in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:08.69

Seventh-grader Ralph Johnson, freshman Sam VanDyke, senior Tyler Saxon, and Chandler teamed to finish fifth in the 800-meter dash in a time of 1:42.45.

Gadow was seventh in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:55.44, and Rose was eighth in 2:57.84.

VanDyke finished eighth in the 300-meter dash in a time of 40.75 seconds, and Blair was 11th in 42.46 seconds.

Junior Brandon Bubniak finished 11th in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:39.11, and Bennett was 12th in 1:39.81.

Johnson finished 11th in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.34 seconds, and Saxon was 17th in 7.53 seconds.

Freshman Hunter Elston finished 14th in the weight throw at 22-feet, 6 3/4-inches, and senior Mike Zimmer was 15th at 19-feet, 9 3/4-inches. Elston finished 21st in the shot put with a heave of 23-feet, 11-inches, and Zimmer was 23rd at 23-feet, 9 1/2-inches.

Waverly returns to action Saturday in the Section IV State Qualifier at Cornell University.
