COLLEGE SOFTBALL: WAVERLY GRAD MENNIG EARNS WIN IN FIRST START OF SEASON FOR CLARKSON (2019-03-05)

SALIBSURY, Md. - Waverly grad Sam Mennig, a senior on the Clarkson softball team, threw six strong innings here Sunday morning to earn the win in the Lady Golden Knights' 8-2 win over Washington College as part of a pair of season-opening doubleheaders that also included Salisbury.

Mennig allowed two unearned runs on seven hits, while striking out four and walking none in six innings.

Mennig also pitched two innings of relief Sunday afternoon in Clarkson's 3-1 loss to Salisbury. Mennig allowed one run on two hits.

Saturday morning, Mennig allowed two earned runs on six hits in three innings of relief in Clarkson's season-opening 10-3 loss to Salisbury. She struck out three and walked none.

Clarkson, now 2-2, returns to action March 15 in games against Pitt-Greensburg and Wheaton College in Clermont, Fla.

Last year, Mennig made 11 starts in the pitcher's circle, handled the team with four wins and 45 strikeouts. She threw three complete games, and tossed 72 2/3 innings - and finished the season with a 4.91 ERA, including a 3.67 ERA over her final 61 1/3 innings pitched

She hit .281 with 18 hits, six runs scored, and four RBI. She had five multi-hit games, and hit .370 (10 hits in 27 ABs) in the final 10 games of the season.
