VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Tioga standout John Worthing placed fourth at the 30th Annual NHSCA Nationals here Sunday.

Competing in the Senior division at 145-pounds, he fell to three-time Nevada state champion Dyllan Fuchs by fall in 1:21 in the third-place consolation final.
Worthing, seeded sixth, earned High School All-American status during Saturday's matches, in which he won three of four bouts. He rebounded from 7-6 loss to eventual champion Gabe Miller of Pennsylvania in the quarterfinals to post three decisions, including a 4-3 triumph over top-seeded Devin Schwarzkopf of Missouri.

Miller, the Pennsylvania Class AA runner-up at 145 this season from Pequea Valley, and three-time state place-winner, would go on to win by pin and major decision to claim the title.

Worthing, the NYSPHSAA Division II champion at 138, continues to impress during post-high school season outings. He won a sudden victory decision at the 45th annual Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic, then won by fall an major decision at the Pinning  Down Autism All-State Duals. At nationals, he posted a 6-2 record with three bonus-point victories. Including the scholastic season, he has a 48-5 record during his senior year of high school.
