NTL TRACK & FIELD: SAYRE GIRLS, BOYS DROP DECISIONS AT WELLSBORO (2019-04-10)

WELLSBORO — The Wellsboro girls dominated the field events to pull out a 74-67 win over Sayre here Wednesday, while the Sayre boys dropped a 101-48 decision in NTL track & field action.

The Lady Redskins won nine of 11 events on the track, but had just three top-three finishers in seven field events.

GIRLS
Wellsboro 74, Sayre 67

Junior Kayla Hughey won four events, while freshman Rozlyn Haney was a triple-winner, and señor Kayla Kittle and junior Julia Boyle was a double-winner for the Lady Redskins.

Hughey won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:47.85, and junior Carrie Claypool was second in 3:03.18.

Hughey won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 6:30.47, and sophomore Lucy Coller was second in 6:38.49.

Hughey teamed with Claypool, Lucy Coller, and senior Jennifer Shaffer to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 12:02.66.

Haney and Hughey teamed with Kittle and senior Anna Coller to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:50.01

Haney won the 100-meter run in a time of 13.43 seconds. She also won the 200-meter run in a time of 27.93 seconds.

Kittle won the 400-meter run in a time of 1:09.67, and Anna Coller was third in 1:12.46. Kittle finished third in the shot put with a heave of 24-feet, 9-inches.

Junior Julia Boyle won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.4 seconds, and sophomore Courtney Sindoni was second in 18.74 seconds.

Boyle also won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 53.82 seconds, and Sindoni was second in 56.73 seconds. Sindoni also finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 26-feet, 9-inches.

Junior Sarah Vandermark won the pole vault with a height of 6-feet, 6-inches.

BOYS
Wellsboro 101, Sayre 48

Sophomores Tavone McClenny, Cody Vanbenthuysen, and Bobby Benjamin were double-winners for the Redskins.

McClenny won the 400-meter run in a time of 57.99 seconds, and junior Corbin Brown was third in 1:00.25.

McClenny teamed with Vanbenthuysen, junior Zach Watkins, and Brown to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:14.22.

Benjamin and Vanbenthuysen teamed with senior Josh McClelland and sophomore Nathan Romano teamed to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 10:01.32.

Benjamin won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 12:19.58, and Romano was second in 13:26.32. Benjamin finished second in the pole vault with a mark of 8-feet, 6-inches, and he was third in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:44.2.

Sophomore Zach Belles won the shot put with a heave of 37-feet, 3-inches, and senior Joey Stermer was third at 34-feet, 5-inches. Belles finished second in the discus with a toss of 100-feet, 7 3/4-inches.

McClelland finished second in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:30.85, and Romano was third in 2:45.05.

Senior Nate Garrity was second in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 18.13 seconds, and sophomore Connor Young was second in the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 49.22 seconds.

Senior Luke Cowder finished third in the javelin with a throw of 120-feet, 5-inches.

Sayre returns to action Friday at the Molly Dry Invite at Mansfield University.
