Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY "” It's a light schedule Thursday, but there are a pair of intriguing baseball games on the docket with Sayre hosting crosstown rival Athens, and Tioga hosting new divisional rival Lansing.
BASEBALL
Athens (8-0) at Sayre (2-6), 4:30 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a wild 16-8 win over Wyalusing Wednesday, while the Redskins dropped a 5-4 decision at Northeast Bradford.
Athens leads the NTL Large School Division, and Sayre sits atop the Small School ranks despite a 2-3 mark in the division.
Last year, the Valley rivals split a pair of decisions. Sayre won 9-3 at home, while Athens won 7-6 on its home field.
Lansing (3-1 overall, 3-1 Div. 2) at Tioga (3-3, 2-2), 4:30 p.m.: The Tigers split a pair of games Saturday - beating Sayre 10-4, then losing 2-1 to unbeaten Athens, while the Bobcats have been off since a 5-1 loss to division-leading Edison last Friday.
Edison sits atop the division at 4-0, so it's a must-win game for both teams.
In their first meeting, Lansing topped Tioga, 6-1.
