IAC BASEBALL: HENDERSHOT FACES MINIMUM IN 1-HITTER; TIOGA THUMPS O-M / WATKINS GLEN, 11-0 (2019-05-17)

WATKINS GLEN "” Senior Pierce Hendershot faced the minimum 21 batters in a one-hitter, and junior Mason Booser powered the offense in Tioga's 11-0 win over Odessa-Montour / Watkins Glen here Friday afternoon in IAC non-divisional baseball action.

Hendershot fanned seven and walked none in the complete-game win.

O-M / WG's only hitter to reach base was Caleb Thomas, who clubbed a two-out double in the fourth inning, but was gunned down at third base on a strong relay throw from centerfielder Brady Worthing to shortstop John Worthing to Thomas Cook at third base to end the inning.

The Tigers took command early with four runs in the top of the first inning.

Hendershot and Booser opened the game with back-to-back singles, and John Worthing put Tioga on the board with an RBI double. After a wild pitch plated Booser, Cook stroked a one-out RBI single to make it 3-0. Senior Derrick Barto capped the scoring with a run-scoring groundout.

Booser slammed a two-run double as part of a three-run Tioga rally in the fourth inning that pushed the lead to 7-0.

After scoring a run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to make it 8-0, Tioga scored three times in the seventh inning on a bases-loaded walk to Hendershot, and a two-run single by Booser.

Booser had three hits, including a double, one run scored, and four RBI, and Hendershot doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run to pace Tioga's 11-hit attack, while Cook singled twice and drove in one run Barto doubled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run.

John Worthing doubled, scored one run, and drove in one run in the win, while senior Christian Weaver singled and scored two runs, Brady Worthing singled and scored one run, and sophomore Seth Franks scored a pair of runs.

Tioga wraps up the regular season with a 13-4 record, and now awaits word on its seed and opening-round opponent in the upcoming Section IV, Class C playoffs.
