CANTON — Sayre scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take control and never looked back en route to a 10-2 win over Canton to clinch the District 15 title here Tuesday evening in Juniors Division baseball action.

With the win, Sayre improves to 3-0 in pool play to clinch the district title and advance to the Section 3 playoffs.

Camden Wheeler singled to lead off the second inning for Sayre, playing as the home team, and scored on an RBI double by Zach Moore, who later scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of David Northrup to make it 2-0.

After R.J. Spears drew a walk, and Brayden Horton was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Kyler Setzer and Isaiah Firestine worked walks to force home runs for a 4-0 lead. Sayre tacked on another run on a wild pitch.

The second-inning rally was more than enough offense for Moore, who started on the mound for Sayre. He allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out six and walking just one in a complete-game effort.

Sayre tacked on two more runs in the third inning on an RBI single by Oakley Gorman, and another bases-loaded walk to Setzer.

Sayre had seven hits in the win, but also benefitted from eight walks, a hit batsman, and two Canton errors.

Wheeler doubled and singled, and scored three runs, and Moore doubled and singled, scored two runs, and drove in a run to lead Sayre at the plate, while Mason Houseknecht and Gorman each singled and drove in a run.

Dom Fabbri singled and scored a run in the win, while Setzer had a pair of RBI, Jake Burgess knocked in a run, and  Brayden Horton, R.J. Spears, David Northrup, and Kannon VanDuzer each scored a run.

Sayre closes out pool Saturday when it hosts Towanda at 4 p.m.
