HAMILTON, N.Y. — Tioga sophomore-to-be Sam Taylor finished tied for 22nd in the 18U division at the New York State Boys’ Junior Amateur Golf Championships at Colgate University’s Seven Oaks Golf Club.

Taylor, representing the Tioga Golf Club, struggled to an opening-round of 80 on Tuesday and was in 32nd place. He shot a 6-over par 42 on the front nine, and was 3-over on the back nine until a birdie on the 537-yard, par-5 18th hole.

On Wednesday, Taylor, who was in 32nd place after his first round, regrouped and shot a 74 to move up 10 spots on the leaderboard.

Taylor had an up-and-down front nine with a double-bogey, three bogeys, and a a pair of birdies — on the 391-yard, par-4 4th hole, and the 192-yard, par-3 8th hole.

On the back nine, Taylor shot a 1-under par 35 with eight pars and a birdie on the 365-yard, par-4 13th hole.

Jude Cummings of Locust Hill Country Club defeated Jeremy Sisson of Skaneateles Country Club in a four-hole playoff. Both golfers shot two-day totals of 145 with matching rounds of 73 and 72.

Day 1 lead Matt Getaway of Attica Golf Club, who shot a 71, on Wednesday, ended up in a tie for seventh place after shooting a 79 on Day 2.

There were 78 golfers in the field.
