PLAINVILLE, Mass. — The Conklin Raiders Gold 18U earned their second consecutive championship here Sunday with a 3-2 win over Top Gun in the title game at the New England’s Finest Showcase.

The Raiders Gold, who won the Tom Doyle Invitational in Toms River, N.J. last week, features a quartet of Valley standouts in Waverly’s Wendi Hammond and Shailei Kraft, Athens’ Emma Adams, and Tioga’s Mariah Culver.

Semifinals
Conklin Gold 14, Sunrise Thunder 0, 5 inn.

In the semifinals, Conklin Gold breezed to a 14-0 win over the Sunrise Thunder Sunday morning behind a one-hitter from Abington Heights’ Meghan McGinley.

Hammond stroked three singles, stole two bases, scored one run, and drove in a run to pace the Gold at the plate, while Kraft singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Adams singled, scored two runs, and had two RBI.

Abington Heights standout Catherine Anne Kupinski homered and doubled, scored three runs, and had two RBI.

McKinley struck out four and walked two in five innings of work.

Championship Game
Raiders Gold 3, Top Gun 2

Lake Lehman standout Chloe VanGorder doubled home the winning run in the top of the seventh inning to lift the Raiders Gold to a 3-2 win over Top Gun in the championship game.

Binghamton’s Paige Rauch worked a one-out walk, and scored the winning run on VanGorder’s double.

VanGorder had two of the Gold’s three hits — a double and a home run — scored one run, and two RBI. Culver singled for the Gold’s other hit, and Adams scored a run.

Hammond and Culver shared the pitching duties. Hammond earned the win with three scoreless innings of work, allowing just two hits, while striking out one and walking one. Culver recorded the save, allowing two runs on five hits in four innings, while striking out two and walking none.
