THE VALLEY — With the cross country dual season starting on both sides of the border, Tuesday will be the busiest day of the young fall season.

There are only a handful of home events on the slate, highlighted by Tioga volleyball’s non-league match-up against Chenango Valley.

Also home are Sayre cross country, boys soccer and volleyball, as well as the SVEC boys soccer, and the Waverly girls swim teams.

Athens (2-0-1) at Galeton (3-1), 4 p.m.:
The Wildcats are coming off a hard-fought, 1-0, non-league win over Corning Saturday, while the Tigers dropped a 6-1 decision at Wellsboro Thursday.

Last year, Athens swept the season series, winning at Galeton 3-1 early in the season, then 5-1 at home late in the season.

Trumansburg (2-1) at SVEC (0-2), 4:30 p.m. @ Candor:
The Eagles are coming off a 4-1 loss to Southern Cayuga Friday, while the Blue Raiders blanked Moravia, 5-0, Wednesday.

Towanda at Sayre, 5:30 p.m.: The Redskins are coming off a 3-2 non-league loss at Elk Lake Saturday, while the Black Knights dropped a 10-1 decision at Tunkhannock.

Last year, Jordan Rockwell netted a hat trick to lead Sayre to a 4-1 win at Towanda.

Tioga (0-3) at Groton (2-3), 7 p.m. @ Tompkins-Cortland Community College:
The Lady Tigers are coming off a 9-3 loss to SVEC last Tuesday, while the Lady Indians dropped a 1-0 decision to Saquoit Valley, and a 3-1 decision to Hoosick Falls over the weekend at the Hall of Fame Tournament, hosted by Saquoit Valley.

One of Groton’s wins was a 7-0 whitewashing of O-M.

Chenango Valley at Tioga, 5 p.m. JV start:
The Lady Tigers are coming off a sweep of Candor Friday, while the Lady Warriors went 2-6 in pool play at the U-E Tournament in their first action of the season.

Waverly (3-0) at Newark Valley, 5 p.m. JV start: The Lady Wolverines are coming off a sweep of S-VE Thursday.

Last year, Waverly won at Newark Valley, 3-2, then swept the Lady Cardinals at home later in the season.

S-VE (1-2) at Edison, 5 p.m. JV start: The Lady Panthers are coming off a 3-0 loss at Waverly, while the Lady Spartans were swept at Tioga.

Last year, Edison won the first match-up 3-2, but S-VE bounced back with a 3-1 win later in the season.

Wyalusing (3-0) at Sayre (1-1), 6 p.m. JV start: The Lady Redskins, who placed second at the Williamson Tournament Saturday, are coming off a sweep of Athens Thursday, while the Lady Rams swept NEB.

Last year, Sayre topped Wyalusing, 3-1.

Notre Dame (1-0) at Waverly (1-0), 4:30 p.m.:
The Lady Wolverines opened the season with a 96-90 win over Watkins Glen Thursday, while the Lady Crusaders topped O-M, 50-32.

Notre Dame is paced by Catherine Craig and Caroline Rogers, who both recorded four first-place finishes.

NEB, Mansfield at Sayre, 4 p.m.:
The Redskins open the 2017 season this afternoon at their Litchfield course, hosting NTL powerhouse NEB, as well as Mansfield.

Waverly, Edison at SVEC, 4:30 p.m.: The Lady Wolverines are coming off a strong showing at the Windsor Invitational, while freshman Collin Wright finished second at Windsor to pace the boys.

Athens, Wyalusing at Wellsboro, 4:30 p.m.: The Wildcats boys and girls had some solid performances at the Windsor Invite Saturday. They’ll test their mettle at Wellsboro in a tri-meet this afternoon.

Tioga, Groton, Dryden at Watkins Glen, 4:30 p.m.: The Tigers open the 2017 season this afternoon at Watkins Glen.

Newark Valley at S-VE (0-3), 4:30 p.m.:
The Lady Panthers are coming off a 2-1 loss to Tioga Thursday, and are still seeking their first win in 2017.

Tioga (1-2) at Owego (0-2), 4:30 p.m.:
Following a 2-1 win over S-VE Thursday, the Lady Tigers are looking to even their record against an Owego team, whose two losses are to powerhouse Marathon.

NTL Match #4 at Towanda Country Club, 2:30 p.m.:
The Redskins, led by senior Ryan Murrelle, enter play this afternoon in third place with a 9-6 record, while Athens sits in sixth place at 1-14.
