DRYDEN — Groton scored seven goals in the first half en route to a 9-0 win over Tioga here Tuesday night in IAC crossover girls soccer action on the turf at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

“It was a great experience for our team to play a night game on a collegiate field,” said Walsh.

“It’s a wider field than we are use to playing on, and, of course, a fast surface,” he noted. “Groton really stretched us out and attacked us at will with speed, finesse, and power.

“They are easily the second best team we have faced this year, with Waverly being the best,” added Walsh.

Groton peppered the Tioga goal with 37 shots, while the Lady Tigers managed just three shots-on-goal. The Lady Indians also had a 15-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Eighth-grader Kylie Zimmer had 27 saves for the Lady Tigers, and Cheyenne Harkins added one.

“Kylie Zimmerman faced a dizzying array of shots tonight and made numerous phenomenal saves in goal,” said Walsh. “She is the real deal in goal.”

Tioga, now 0-4, returns to action Thursday at Newfield.
