WELLSBORO — The Lady Wildcats earned a pair of season-opening wins over Wyalusing and Wellsboro, while the Athens boys came up short here Tuesday afternoon in NTL cross country action.

GIRLS
Athens 23, Wyalusing 32 — Athens 23, Wellsboro 32

Senior Emily Arnold finished second in a time of 25:01 to pace the Lady Wildcats, while senior Selkie Bishop finished fourth at 26:56, and senior Caitlyn Powell was fifth at 26:59.

Sophomore Isabell Menard finished 14th in a time of 31:07, while senior Kendra Gorsline was 18th in 34:19, and freshman Sierra Ardrey was 19th at 34:53.

Wellsboro’s Anna Bleggi won the race in a time of 24:39.

BOYS
Wellsboro 19, Athens 36 — Wyalusing 21, Athens 34

Sophomore T.J. Toscano and senior Sean Waltman finished seventh and eighth, respectively, in times of 20:56 and 21:42 to lead the Athens boys.

Tivon Liguori finished 11th for the Wildcats in a time of 22:39, while freshman Mason Hendershot was 14th in 23:07, freshman Satchel Manchester was 15th in 23:15, and senior Nate Gorsline was 19th in 24:03.

Junior Brandon Herbst finished 21st for Athens in a time of 24:13, while junior Camden Allen was 22nd in 24:19, sophomore Ben Biles was 23rd in 24:55, and Griffin Jacobson was 26th in 26:48.

Athens returns to action Saturday at the McDaniel-Baxter Invite at Chenango Valley State Park.
