THE VALLEY  Soccer takes center this week with the Athens girls and boys in action against top-notch opponents, and the SVEC and Waverly girls playing for IAC Championships Saturday afternoon.

The football weekend will feature Homecoming games in Waverly and Sayre, while Tioga can lock up a division title.

There are 41 varsity events on the schedule this week, with 13 scheduled for Tuesday, and nine for Saturday.

(The following are the highlights of the week, not the entire schedule.)

  The Sayre boys travel to Galeton in a must-win game to qualify for the upcoming District 4 playoffs.

  The Athens girls host Section IV powerhouse Elmira on the soccer pitch as they tune-up for the upcoming District 4 playoffs.

  The Athens boys  host Notre Dame on the soccer pitch in a re-match of their 0-0 draw two weeks ago at Notre Dame.

  The Waverly, Tioga and SVEC cross country teams will be in action in Newark Valley at the IAC Divisional meet.

  The Tioga girls soccer team puts a wrap on 2017 under the lights at Haggerty Field against Watkins Glen.

  The S-VE field hockey team hosts Owego, needing a win to qualify for the upcoming Section IV playoffs.

  The SVEC girls wrap up the regular season on the soccer pitch against state-ranked Cincinnatus at Candor High School.


  The Athens girls host Troy on the soccer pitch in a re-match of their 1-1 draw from earlier this season. The NTL title is on the line.


  Tioga football hits the road to Moravia. With a win, the Tigers lock up the Division VII title, and at least one home game in the upcoming Section IV, Class D playoffs.

  Waverly football looks to break a five-game losing streak when it hosts Chenango Valley for Homecoming.

  Athens football hosts Wyalusing at Alumni Stadium, and SVEC hosts Oneonta at Candor High School.

  The Athens, Waverly, Tioga, and SVEC cross country teams will be in action at the Newark Valley Invitational.

  The SVEC girls soccer team takes on Groton in the IAC Small School Championship game at 2 p.m. at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

  The Waverly girls play for the IAC Large School Championship game at 6 p.m. at TC3.

  The Sayre cross country teams are the NTL Coaches Invite.

  Sayre football hosts Canton Saturday night for Homecoming.
