|NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: ATHENS RIDES FAST START TO 46-28 WIN OVER WYALUSING (2018-01-08)

ATHENS Athens used a strong defensive effort to build a 17-point halftime lead on its way to a 46-28 win over Wyalusing here Monday night in NTL Large School Division girls basketball action.
Senior Emily Lunger scored six points in the first quarter, and junior Sophie Adams added four points as the Lady Wildcats took a 15-8 lead.
Athens limited the Lady Rams to just three points in the second quarter, while senior Kara Chapman scored six points, and freshman Kayleigh Miller drained a 3-pointer in a 13-3 run that pushed the lead to 28-11 at the intermission.
Wyalusing trimmed the lead to 12 at the end of the third quarter, but Lunger scored six points in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.
Chapman led Athens with 16 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots, while Lunger added 14 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals, and Sophie Adams had six points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots.
Sophomore Haley Barry chipped in with five points in the win, while Miller grabbed five rebounds, and sophomore Avery Priester dished out three assists.
Sara Bird led Wyalusing with 12 points
Athens returns to action Wednesday at Wellsboro.
JV: Wyalusing won the junior varsity contest, 40-28. Emily Pennison led Athens with 18 points.
