SAYRE — Wyalusing closed out the first half with a 7-0 spurt to take a 10-point lead en route to a 50-40 win over Sayre here Tuesday night in NTL boys basketball action.
Jon Morrison knocked down a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter , and Kasar Cameron converted an old-fashioned three-point play to help Wyalusing to a 16-10 lead.
Senior Jordan Rockwell scored the only bucket of the first 4 1/2 minutes of the second quarter to close the gap to 16-12.
Will Martin finally put the Rams on the board in the second quarter with 3:30 remaining to up the lead to 18-12.
Sophomore Corbin Brown buried a 3-pointer with 3:15 left in the half, but Martin answered moments later with a 3-pointer to push the Rams’ lead back to six points, at 21-15.
Cameron and Morrison added buckets in the final minute of the half to give Wyalusing a 25-15 lead at the half.
Senior Ryan Murrelle canned a 3-pointer and scored five points in the third quarter, and Rockwell buried a 3-pointer, but Morrison countered with a pair of 3-pointers for the Rams to help them maintain a 33-25 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
Murrelle and Gage Carnrike each knocked down in the fourth quarter, but Morrison and Calvin Burke each hit three for the Rams, who also made five of seven free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Murrelle and Rockwell scored 12 points apiece, and each made two 3-pointers to lead Sayre, while junior James Esposito added six points, and Carnrike chipped in with five points.
Morrison led Wyalusing with 21 points, including six 3-pointers.
Sayre, now 3-8, returns to action Thursday when it hosts North Penn-Liberty.
