THE VALLEY — If you want to see a basketball game, a swim meet, or a bowling match, Thursday is a good day to be a sports fan in the Valley.
The Sayre and Athens boys both host games tonight, while the Waverly boys host a meet this afternoon, and the Waverly bowling teams play host at the Valley Bowling Center.
NP-Liberty (3-6) at Sayre (3-8), 6 p.m. JV start: The Redskins are coming off a 50-40 loss to Wyalusing Tuesday, while the Mountaineers topped Cowanesque Valley, 45-38.
In their first meeting last season, NP-Liberty topped Sayre, 57-43. About a month later, the Redskins topped NP-L, 56-42
Troy (7-4) at Athens (7-4), 6 p.m. JV start: The Wildcats are coming off an 81-47 loss to Wellsboro Tuesday, while the Trojans rolled over Williamson, 72-41.
Last year, Athens topped Troy, 71-54 in early January. About a month later, Athens beat the Trojans, 66-50.
Tioga (10-2) at Chenango Valley (4-4), 7 p.m.: The Tigers are coming off a 74-12 win over Waverly Wednesday, while the Indians topped arch-rival Chenango Forks, 51-30.
Lansing at Waverly (8-0), 4:30 p.m.: The Wolverines are coming off a win over Towanda, and already own a convincing victory over the Bobcats.
Newark Valley (29-15) at Waverly (34-6), 3:30 p.m. @ Valley Bowling Center: The Wolverines and Cardinals split four games at Cardinal Lanes earlier this season.
Waverly is in second place in the Large School Division, two games behind front-running Watkins Glen, while NV is in fourth place, nine games off the pace in the loss column.
Tioga at O-M, 3:30 p.m. @ Harbourside Lanes @ Watkins Glen: The Tigers are coming off a sweep of Groton Tuesday, while the Indians were swept by Edison.
Tioga leads the Small School Division by 20 games over Edison, while O-M is in fourth place, 29 games back in the loss column.
Newark Valley (1-43) at Waverly (38-2), 3:30 p.m. @ Valley Bowling Center: The Lady Wolverines swept the Lady Cardinals earlier this season at Cardinal Lanes.
Waverly leads the Large School Division by nine games over Watkins Glen.
Tioga (26-10) at O-M (23-17), 3:30 p.m. @ Harbourside Lanes @ Watkins Glen: The Lady Tigers are coming off a 3-1 win over Groton Tuesday, while the Lady Indians were swept by Edison.
Tioga leads Candor by four games in the loss column in the Small School standings, while O-M is in third place seven games behind in the loss column.
