TIOGA CENTER — Tioga built a 14-point halftime lead, then held off a second-half rally by making 14 of 22 free throws en route to a 55-50 season-ending win over Towanda in IAC junior varsity girls basketball action.
Olivia Ayres knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter, and Bri Rossi added a 3-pointer to help Tioga to a 15-8 lead.
Madison Howey, and Ayres scored four points apiece in the second quarter, and Hannah Fox canned a 3-pointer in a 14-7 spurt that gave the junior Lady Tigers a 29-15 lead.
Ayres scored nine points in the third quarter, including a 6-for-7 effort from the free-throw line, and three in a row after being fouled attempting a 3-pointer, but Towanda trimmed the lead to 42-33 heading into the final eight minutes.
Ayres scored eight more points in the fourth quarter, and Tioga made enough free throws — 8 of 15 — to secure the win.
Ayres poured in 27 points, including four 3-pointers and an 11 of 16 effort at the free-throw line, to lead Tioga, while Howey and Julia Bellis scored seven points apiece, Ari Manwaring added six points, and Rossi, and Fox chipped in with four points apiece.
Kenadie Packard led Towanda with 16 points, while Amanda Horton added 14, and Taylor Parker chipped in with 10 points.
Tioga finishes the season at 6-12.
