GAMBRELL, 3,200-METER RELAY TURN IN RECORD-BREAKING PERFORMANCES FOR LADY WILDCATS

ATHENS — Seniors Breana Gambrell, and Emily Lunger, and junior Rachel Hutchison won four events apiece, and junior Ariana Gambrell was a triple-winner to lead the Lady Wildcats to their fourth consecutive league title here Friday at the NTL girls track & field championships at Alumni Stadium.

Athens won 12 of 18 events, including record-breaking performances by Breana Gambrell, and the 3,200-meter relay team, to claim the team title with 163.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Troy, which had 110 points, and third-place Williamson, which tallied 103.5 points. Sayre was ninth with 32 points.

Breana Gambrell won the long jump with a new Alumni Stadium, and NTL Championship record mark of 20-feet, 7-inches, and Ariana Gambrell was third at 16-feet, 10 1/4-inches.

Breana Gambrell also won the triple jump with an effort of 38-feet, 4 1/4-inches, and Sayre senior Madisyn Wheeler was eighth at 30-feet, 4 1/4-inches.

Breana Gambrell won the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.44 seconds.

Breana Gambrell, Lunger, Hutchison, and Ariana Gambrell teamed to win the 400-meter relay in a time of 49.24 seconds.

Lunger won the 400-meter dash in 1:02.2, while Sayre junior Kayla Kittle was fifth in 1:06.1, and Sayre sophomore Anna Coller was seventh in 1:08.26. She also won the 200-meter dash in 26.05 seconds.

Lunger won the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-feet, 4-inches, and Athens freshman Leah Liechty was fifth at 4-feet, 4-inches.

Hutchison won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 46.85 seconds

Ariana Gambrell won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.02 seconds, and Sayre sophomore Julia Boyle was fourth in 17.2 seconds.

Hutchison, and Ariana Gambrell teamed with sophomores Samantha Markle, and Haley Chambers to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:21.47, and the Sayre foursome of Madisyn Wheeler, Anna Coller, Jennifer Shaffer, and Kayla Kittle placed fourth in 4:33.0.

Hutchison also teamed with senior Emily Arnold, Chambers, and senior Caitlyn Powell to win the 3,200-meter relay in a school-record time of 10:16.66, eclipsing the previous mark of 10:18.82 set in 1994 by Heather Blair, Traci MacWhinnie, Marci Page, and Tammi Tenbus.

The Sayre foursome of senior Madison Harding, Kittle, Shaffer, and sophomore Kayla Hughey finished fourth in a time of 10:58.69.

Athens junior Paige McCarthy won the javelin with a toss of 109-feet, 1-inch, and Athens sophomore Cassidy Stackpole was seventh at 95-feet, 1-inch.

Chambers finished second in the 800-meter dash in 2:40.52, and Hughey was seventh in 2:42.07.

Arnold finished second in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 12:51.05, while Sayre freshman Carrie Claypool was fifth in 13:13.79, Athens junior Sophie Adams was sixth in 13:23.31, and Athens senior Selkie Bishop was seventh in 13:32.35.

Powell finished fifth in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:55.45, and Chambers was sixth in 6:02.71

Sayre sophomore Mackenzie Wilkerson was fifth in the pole vault at 6-feet, 6-inches, and Bishop was eighth at 6-feet.

Athens freshman Katie Lynch finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 85-feet, 10-inches, which is a new Lady Wildcat freshman record.
