ATHENS —McDonald’s and Williams Ford both rallied from deficit, and battled to an 12-12 tie here Friday night in Athens / Sayre Little League Majors Division baseball action.
McDonald’s scored a run in the top of the second to tie the game at 2-2, then scored seven times in the third to take a 9-2 lead, only to see Williams Ford plate eight runs in the home half of the inning for a 10-9 lead.
After Williams Ford upped its lead to 11-9 after four innings, McDonald’s scored twice in the fifth inning to tie the game at 11-11, and scored once in the sixth inning to take a 12-11 lead. Williams Ford tied the game in the home half of the inning, and the game was called.
Matthias Welles was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, and two RBI to lead Williams Ford’s 13-hit attack, while Garrett Thetga had three hits, including a pair of doubles, scored three runs, and drove in one run, and Kelley Reid singled twice, scored one run, and had two RBI.
Matthew Driesbaugh singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs for Williams Ford, and Jase Babcock, Josh Martin, and Dylan Saxon each singled, scored one run, and had one RBI.
Saxon had the best turn on the mound for Williams Ford, pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts, and two walks.
William Crossett had three hits including a triple, scored one run, and had three RBI to pace McDonald’s at the plate, while Nick Pellicano singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in one run, and Aiden Ennis singled twice, and scored two runs.
Ronin Ault singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs for McDonald’s, while Andrew Lynch singled and scored two runs, Kaden Bennett singled and scored a run, Michael Griffin scored a run and had two RBI, and Hudson Trump scored a run and drove in a run.
Gorsline pitched 3 1/3 innings in relief for McDonald’s, allowing three runs — all unearned — on four hits, while striking out seven and walking one. Ault walked a batter in 1/3 inning of scoreless relief.
