VORHEES, N.J. — The Conklin Raiders Gold 18U travel softball team, featuring Athens’ Emma Adams, Waverly’s Wendi Hammond, and Tioga’s Mariah Culver, went 6-0 over the weekend to win the East Coast Showdown.

Hammond and Culver each had two wins in the pitcher’s circle, and Adams hit a pair of home runs and collected seven RBI.

Pool Play
Conklin Raiders Gold 8, Witches Gold 3
Hammond tossed a complete game, and Adams contributed a key hit in the first inning to help the Raiders to an 8-3 win over the Pennsbury, N.J.-based Witches Gold in the opening game of pool play Saturday morning.

Hammond allowed three runs — two earned — on six hits, while striking out six and walking one to earn the win in a six-inning, complete-game performance.

Abington Heights’ Catherine Ann Kupinski belted a three-run home run in the first inning to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead, and Adams slammed a three-run triple later in the frame to make it 6-0.

Adams was 1-for-2 with three RBI in the win, while Hammond was 0-for-2 with a run scored.

Raiders Gold 5, N.J. Outlaws 0
Adams and Hammond each had two hits in support of Horseheads’ Laura Bennett in the Raiders’ 5-0 win over the Mansfield, N.J.-based N.J. Outlaws Saturday afternoon in pool play.

Bennett, who also homered to benefit her own cause, scattered five singles in five shutout innings to earn the win. She fanned seven and walked one.

Hammond singled twice and had two RBI, and Adams singled twice, stole one base, and drove in one run.

Culver closed out the game and struck out two in a scoreless inning of relief.

Raiders Gold 3, Rage Gold 2
Hammond slugged a solo home run with one out in the top of the sixth inning to lift the Conklin Raiders Gold to a 3-2 win over the Delaware County, Pa.-based Rage Gold in the final game of pool play Saturday afternoon.

With the score tied at 2-2, Hammond hit a 1-0 pitch over the center-field fence for what proved to be the game-winner. It was her only hit of the game.

Adams singled and stole two bases in the win.

Culver earned the win in three innings of one-hit relief. She allowed an unearned run, while striking out three and walking two.

Quarterfinals
Raiders Gold 10, N.J. Venom Premier 1

Culver pitched a two-hitter and Adams homered to lead the Raiders to a 10-1 win over the Bridgewater, N.J.-based N.J. Venom Premier Sunday morning in the quarterfinals of bracket play.

Culver allowed an unearned run, while striking out 10 and walking one in a complete-game, seven-inning performance.

Adams homered and singled, scored two runs, and had two RBI, while Hammond singled, scored one run, stole one base, and drove in one run.

Kupinski, who had three hits and scored three runs, also hit a home run in the win.

Semifinals
Raiders Gold 3, East Coast Tsunami Gold 0

Bennett fired a one-hitter to lead the Conklin Raiders Gold to a 3-0 win over the Belleville, N.J.-based East Coast Tsunami Gold in the semifinals Sunday afternoon.

Bennett fanned 12 and walked none in seven innings of work. She threw just 84 pitches.

Hammond singled, scored one run, and drove in a run, and Adams singled, stole one base, and scored a run in the win.

Championship Game
Raiders Gold 11, N.J. Outlaws 4

The Raiders scored nine runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to an 11-4 win over the N.J. Outlaws in a game shortened to four innings due to heavy rains.

Hammond singled twice in the first inning, and Adams belted a three-run home run in her second at-bat to cap the scoring. Chenango Forks’ Grace Cadden hit a grand slam home run in the rally.

Hammond was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and a stolen base, while Adams homered and singled, scored two runs, and had four RBI.

Hammond earned the win, allowing four runs — three earned — on nine hits, while striking out four and walking two in four innings.
