ATHENS — Athens scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning to blow open a close game en route to a 12-2 four-inning win over Southern Tioga here Tuesday evening in a battle of unbeatens in pool play of the District 15 Little League 11U baseball playoffs.

Athens finishes the first half of pool play at 3-0, and will play Thursday at Tioga-Lawrenceville, while Southern Tioga falls to 2-1, and will play at Tunkhannock.

Southern Tioga scored two runs without a hit in the top of the first inning, thanks to a pair of errors, but Athens atoned for their miscues three runs in the home half of the frame.

Southern Tioga loaded the bases in the top of the second inning on a pair of walks and Athens’ third — and last — error of the game, but Nick Grazul, who came on in relief during the frame, recorded a strikeout to end the threat.

Eli Chapman, Carson Rowe, and Grazul started the bottom of the second with consecutive doubles to extend the lead to 5-2. Dylan Saxon added a two-RBI single later in the inning, and Ethan Hicks capped the scoring with a run-scoring single.

Grazul was 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored, and one RBI, and Rowe had three hits, including a double, two runs scored, and three RBI in Athens’ 13-hit attack.

Saxon singled twice, scored one run, and had three RBI in the win, while Hicks doubled and singled, and knocked in a run, Troy Rosenbloom singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, Chapman doubled and scored a pair of runs, and Riley Campbell scored two runs.

Rosenbloom started for Athens, allowing two runs — both unearned — with two strikeouts and two walks.

Grazul earned the win in relief, allowing one hit, while fanning seven and walking four in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
