WAVERLY — Waverly scored six runs in each of the second and third innings in support of no-hit pitching in a 15-0 three-inning rout of Elmira in the quarterfinals of the District 6 Little League baseball playoffs here Saturday morning.

Waverly scored three runs in the bottom of the first in a rally capped by a two-run single by Jake VanHouten.

VanHouten had a two-RBI double in the second inning, and Jay Pipher and Brayden Talada also added run-scoring hits as Waverly pushed its lead to 9-0.

Waverly closed the game out via the 15-run “mercy rule” in the third inning in a rally that featured consecutive singles by Carter George, Jacob Benjamin, Sean Bubniak, and Nehemiah Anthony.

Bubniak was the beneficiary of the the offensive onslaught, fanned six in 2 2/3 innings of hitless ball to earn the win. Talada retired the only batter he faced in relief.

VanHouten doubled and singled, scored one run, and had five RBI, and Pipher doubled and singled and scored three runs to pace Waverly at the plate, while Talada singled twice and scored three runs, and Joey Tomasso doubled and scored three runs.

George singled and scored two runs in the win, while Nathan DeLill doubled and scored one run, Benjamin singled and scored one run, Bubniak and Anthony each added a single, and Ryan Bostwick scored a run.

Second-seeded Waverly will play in the semifinals against the winner of the game between third-seed Horseheads and sixth-seed Corning-Painted Post (A) Monday at a site to be determined.
