TUNKHANNOCK — Athens scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning to bounce back from an early deficit en route to a 16-5 four-inning win over Tunkhannock in pool play of the District 15 Little League 11U baseball playoffs here Saturday afternoon.
After Tunkhannock, playing as the visiting team, scored three runs in the top of the first inning, Athens rallied with 10 runs in a rally that featured a two-run single by Eli Chapman, and RBI singles by Troy Rosenbloom, Ethan Hicks, Carson Rowe, and Nick Grazul.
Tunkhannock trimmed the deficit to 10-4 with a run in the top of the second, but Athens put the game away with six runs in the home half of the frame in a rally highlighted by a two-run single by Grazul.
Grazul stroked three singles and had three RBI, and Rosenbloom singled twice, scored two runs, and had three RBI to pace Athens at the plate, while Rowe singled twice, scored three runs, and drove in one run, and Riley Campbell singled twice and scored two runs.
Chapman singled, scored three runs, and had two RBI in the win, while Hicks singled, scored a run, and drove in a run, Matt Driesbaugh doubled and scored a run, and Parker Wanck crossed the plate twice.
Rosenbloom earned the win for Athens, allowing five runs — four earned — on two hits, while striking out four and walking six.
Grazul closed out the game, striking out three in 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief.
Athens, now 5-0 in pool play, will travel to Southern Tioga Monday for the final game of pool play.
