WAVERLY — Like it or not, history does tend to repeat itself.
Two years, Waverly snapped a long losing streak against Horseheads with a win in pool play, only to lose to its nemesis in the District 6 championship game.
This season, Waverly once again beat Horseheads in pool play, and Monday evening third-seed Horseheads returned the favor with a 7-3 win second-seed Waverly here in the District 6 Little League Majors Division playoffs.
Waverly took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Joey Tomasso, who later scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0.
Waverly, playing as the visiting team, never led again in the game as Horseheads answered with four runs in the home half of the first inning.
Waverly closed the gap to 4-3 with a run in the top of the second, but Horseheads again answered with two runs for a 6-3 lead.
Waverly managed just two hits off Horseheads pitching over the final four innings.
Tomasso singled, scored one run, and drove in a run to lead Waverly at the plate, while Pipher and Nate DeLill each singled and scored a run, and Carter George and Jacob Benjamin each added a single.
Tomasso and Jake Van Houten shared the pitching duties and combined to strike out five and walk none, while allowing seven runs — six earned — on 12 hits.
Dominick Russ hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and Anthony Bifano and Henry Jackson each singled twice and scored two runs to lead Horseheads at the plate.
