HERSHEY — Athens sophomore Brian Courtney (33-0) will wrestle in the Class AA quarterfinals this morning at 9 a.m. here at the PIAA Wrestling Championships at the Giant Center.

Courtney, who manhandled Burgettstown senior Austin McDermitt in a 13-2 major decision in the opening round, will now face Jefferson-Morgan senior Brendan Howard (41-6). ...more

CANTON, N.Y. — Tioga grad Kara McDuffee was the unanimous selection as the Liberty League Conference “Player of the Year” in recent voting by the league’s coaches.

McDuffee set a new single-season program record for rebounds with 343, shattering the previous mark of 286.

HERSHEY — Athens sophomore Brian Courtney begins his quest for PIAA gold this morning at the Hersheypark Arena in a loaded Class AA, 120-pound weight class.

With the expansion from 16 to 20 wrestlers per weight class, the final wrestler to qualify from each of the four regions will wrestle in preliminary-round matches when action begins at 9 a.m.

Courtney will open Thursday morning against the winner of the preliminary-round bout between Burgettstown’s Austin McDermitt, who was unbeaten headed into the Southwest Regional last weekend, but finished fifth, and Greenville’s Michael Lineman (26-12), who placed fourth at the Northwest Region. ...more
