In the game story for Friday's Tioga-Randolph game, I wrote that defense wins championships.

Randolph has proved that adage true in each of the last two seasons and is one win away from its third straight Class D state title.

The Tigers Express kept rolling last Friday with more than 600 yards in total offense in a not-as-close-as-the-final-score-indicates, 46-22, win over Section III champ Dolgeville in the quarterfinals of the New York State Class D football playoffs.

It marks the fourth time the four-time defending Section IV champs have rolled over the Section III representatives and into the state semifinals.

TIOGA CENTER  Tioga's 46-22 win over Dolgeville marked the fourth consecutive New York State Regional quarterfinal win for Nick Aiello's Tigers over a Section III champ.

The 24-point margin-of-victory Friday was the closest game yet.

"I think the competition is definitely up, which makes Class D in Section IV a little stronger," said Aiello. "When you include Unatego, Walton and the other traditionally-strong programs, it's tough. ...more
