YOUTH GOLF (15U — BOYS): TIOGA'S TAYLOR RALLIES LATE TO NOTCH WIN ON CENTRAL N.Y. JUNIOR PGA TOUR (2017-07-30)

POMPEY, N.Y. — Tioga’s Sam Taylor rallied from two strokes down in the final two holes to win 15U Division of the Pompey Cub stop on the Central N.Y. Junior PGA Tour here Friday afternoon.
Taylor, who posted the lowest round of the day regardless of age, shot a 2-under par round 70 to edge Syracuse’s John Gruninger by two strokes.
Taylor was 1-under par after 16 holes, but Gruninger, who had five birdies through the first 16 holes, had a two-stroke lead.
On the 531-yard, par-5 17th hole, Gruninger carded a triple-bogey, while Taylor parred the hole, giving the Tioga sophomore-to-be a one-shot lead heading the to the final tee.
Taylor finished in style with a birdie on the 380-yard, par-4 18th hole to secure the win.
Taylor had three birdies on the front nine — on the 342-yard, par-4 1st hole, the 168-yard, par-3 6th hole, and the 192-yard, par-3 8th hole, but also had a double-bogey and a bogey to shoot an even-par 35.
Taylor was nearly flawless on the back nine with seven pars and a birdie on the 491-yard, par-5 11th hole to go along with the birdie on 18 to shoot a 2-under 35.
Adam Butch of Manlius finished third with a round of 80.
