Valley Sports Report for Penn York Valley

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY - There are four home events on the docket Wednesday, but the main event sees the Waverly wrestlers invading Tioga.

Also at home are the Sayre boys, the Sayre swimmers, and the Waverly bowlers.

Waverly (6-10 overall, 2-1 IAC) at Tioga (3-0, 1-0), 7 p.m.:
The Tigers, ranked second in Division 2 in New York state, are coming off a 42-39 win over Division 1 power (ranked 11th in the state) Fulton Saturday, while the Wolverines' last dual on Dec. 20 was a 63-18 win over Sayre.

The marquee match-up of the night would be at 145 pounds if Tioga senior Austin Lamb and Waverly junior Ethan Stotler square off.

The Tigers should be heavy favorites at 99 (7th-grader Gianni Silvestri), 106 (7th-grader Caden Bellis), 113 (freshman Mason Welch), 132 (junior Brady Worthing), 138 (senior John Worthing), 152 (freshman Emmett Wood), 160 (senior Zac Warner), and 285 (senior Stephen Taylor).

There is a possibility for several competitive match-ups: Waverly junior Rylan Laforest against Tioga freshman Justin Hopkins at 120, Waverly senior Colby Sindoni against Tioga junior David MacWhinnie at 126 pounds, Tioga senior Vinnie Sullivan against Waverly freshman Andrew Kimble at 170, Waverly 8th-grader Gage Tedesco against Tioga junior Dom Wood at 182, and Waverly junior Trent Skeens against Tioga senior Matt Babcock at 220 pounds.

Of course, all the aforementioned match-up are purely speculative, depending on how the coaches may want to juggle the line-up.

Wellsboro (7-2) at Sayre (1-7), 6 p.m. JV start:
The Redskins have been off since a 58-54 loss to Towanda in the consolation game of the Valley Christmas Tournament on Dec. 28, while the Green Hornets topped Wyalusing 60-32 on Friday.

Athens (6-1) at Cowanesque Valley (4-4), 6 p.m. JV start: The Wildcats are coming off a 64-40 win over North Penn-Liberty Friday, while the Indians topped winless Montgomery 64-32 Saturday.

Bloomsburg at Sayre, 4:30 p.m. ... PPD.

Marathon at Waverly, 3:30 p.m. @ Valley Bowling Center.
